Carrie Longley, associate professor of fine arts, is the instructor for the senior capstone course.

“Senior capstone is an intensive course that prepares students for a career as a professional artist or designer. Students interview artists and designers currently working in the field to gain insights into best practices, challenges, and successes,” Longley said. “During the semester, students visited the Richmond Art Museum and InfinitPrint to gain insights into professional opportunities and resources within Richmond.”

Each spring graduating seniors at IU East complete a capstone course to prepare them for life after college as artists and creatives. As part of the course, students think about their individual artistic interests, intent, and themselves as human beings and the way they want to communicate with the world through their art, resulting in a cohesive body of work.

“The semester culminated with a final exhibition where all five students created a cohesive body of art and design work,” Longley said. “They worked tirelessly throughout the semester and had regular critiques to ensure that their exhibitions would be the best representation of what they have learned throughout their studies at IU East. Visitors can expect to see a variety of expressions and perspectives from our talented senior Fine Arts students.”
