February 19, 2015 |

The next upcoming“Let’s Talk” series will focus on teenage pregnancy. “Let’s Talk” is broadcast live from 7-8 p.m. on WETV Channel 20.

The series is an interactive forum for students, faculty, and members of the community. The series is sponsored by the Indiana University East School of Humanities and Social Sciences.

In 2012, a total of 305,388 babies were born to women aged 15–19 years. Parenting at any age can be challenging, but it can be particularly difficult for adolescent parents. Teen pregnancy and childbearing bring substantial social and economic costs through immediate and long-term impacts on teen parents and their children. Additionally, teen pregnancies carry extra health risks to both the mother and the baby. Come join the discussion on how to prevent teenage pregnancies, the risks associated with teenage pregnancies, and resources available to teen moms.

The speakers are Amy Keene, director of Preventing Adolescent Pregnancy for Girls Inc. of Wayne County; Amber Hibberd, physician’s assistant for the Wayne County Health Department; and Roxann McFarland, director of Diplomas Day Care.

Audience members are encouraged to ask questions during the live broadcast by calling in at (765) 973-8587 or by posting questions on Facebook at facebook.com/iueletstalk.
