Senior Meyer leaves it all on the court

A pair of basketball shoes and a jersey are on display in an office on the Indiana University East campus.

However, the exhibit isn’t located in an athletic facility.

Tim Scales, who is the director of the Center for Entrepreneurship at IU East, is in possession of the reminders from the basketball career of 2024 graduate Colt Meyer.

“I knew from the beginning Colt was a leader on the basketball court and the classroom from our personal interactions,” Scales said. “I wanted to challenge Colt and see how he could handle professional growth.”

As a result, Meyer joined the BOSS (Business Opportunities for Self-Starters) program and became a student CEO (Cash Equals Opportunities).

“Colt excelled quickly in both programs,” Scales said.

A recent winner of a Best Presentation Award at a conference in New Orleans, Meyer has also started his own business called Southeast Indiana Pressure Wash and co-authored a cookbook, CiCi Cooks.

“IU East has been a great experience for me,” Meyer said. “Tim has been a great mentor for me and many others since I’ve been here. He has helped me with academics as well as how to run my business. Being in the BOSS program was where I was introduced to entrepreneurship and where I realized I could actually do this.”

On the basketball court, Meyer was an All-River States Conference First Team selection this past season as he reached a scoring milestone for the Red Wolves.

“He came out of his shell a lot while he was here,” IU East men’s basketball coach Mark Hester said. “What we needed him to do changed after the first year. “

“Originally, he was looking to be a point guard,” Hester added. “After the first year, it became apparent he was much more suited to being allowed to score and we gave him the freedom to do that.”

After transferring from Thomas More University before his sophomore year, Meyer finished his career at IU East with 1,268 points. He averaged 19.0 points per game as a senior.

“I was talking to many other coaches to see where I would be a good fit,” said Meyer, who was also a RSC Scholar-Athlete. “I chose IU East because of the team chemistry. When I went to play with the team in an open gym, I really enjoyed the chemistry.”

“I want to thank God for giving me the opportunities and my parents, Rick and Tracy, my brother and sister, Peyton and Morgan,” Meyer continued. “I’m thankful for everything they have done for me and for all the support from my friends, professors, teammates and coaches.”

Meyer already has a plan for the future as the Batesville High School graduate leaves IU East with a Business Administration and Accounting degree.

“Right now, I am running my pressure washing business for the second summer in a row,” he said. “As well as doing some basketball training for the younger generation.”
